Liverpool’s fabulous #LockIn event

Working in Liverpool at the moment is great isn’t it? With the Baltic booming with creativity, Bold Street blooming with new businesses and REX the brand new city centre concept store championing amazing independents (and that’s just naming a few) we really can’t get enough of it at the moment.

Last week we attended a networking event in the fabulous new constellations called Lock in Liverpool, “an all-night networking event & hive of activity for small businesses, sole traders & those with a really good idea”. The lock in was filled with creatives, marketeers, coders, gamers, fashion buyers, artists and even an 11 year old entrepreneur Angel, who had her own stall set up with her dog princess! The most amazing thing was when we approached Angel she was so confident and comfortable talking about her business Pawabella, from the way she explained what each product does, where it come from and how it can be used on your pets. We definitely want to see more 11 year old’s like this – what an inspiration!

Workshops consisted of finance, pint size pitching, building your brand and our favourite one ‘Women in Business’ which consisted of a gender facts quiz led by the wonderful Women’s Org, neighbours of Constellations in the Baltic Triangle.

When it came to ‘storytime’, Girl Geeks had the honour to speak on the panel with Gary Miller, SoundCity, Homebaked, Phom Tea and REX. Storytime was a fantastic concept, and gave the audience the chance to ask questions about entrepreneurship, women in business and what was happening in Liverpool at the moment.

Some facts from the gender quiz (discuss in comments);

the percentage of women owned businesses compared to those owned by men is 15%

the pay gap between male and female managers working full time in similar roles is still 25%

We absolutely love events like this here in Liverpool as there are so many creatives to meet and learn from, you come away motivated and inspired (with a bag full of business cards).

We want to thank Making Business Work (the plus dane group) and Juxdit for putting on this fabulous event and want to invite you all to their next, which is the launch of their new business venture Bottle Top Business;
