As co-founder of Liverpool Girl Geeks I thought I would give you a little update on what we have been up to over the last few months since our re-launch… and oh have we been busy!
Firstly I would like to say a HUGE thanks to all our bloggers – we have a lovely little blogging family now and within 2 months it’s grown from only two of us to a whopping eight with a huge range of skills that are so important in highlighting what we want to achieve – which is to see more women in the technology and science sectors, making amazing apps, websites, games and artworks, as well as discovering/creating the innovations of the future…
At the start of the month we attended the Nacue student enterprise conference at LJMU. We were on the women in tech panel with the brilliant Ella Romanos and Abigail from Red Ninja Studios talking about the importance of raising awareness of the gender gap in the technology sector. Like most panels, views were expressed and discussed within the room, but this one felt different. We came away with a list of things we wanted to achieve over the next few months, one being a series of courses which teaches digital skills to help start your career into the tech world! The same week we also presented at Awesome Liverpool which was nerve-wracking to say the least but such a good opportunity. To be in front of the amazing (and awesome obv) trustees telling them about something you love is an absolute honour, and even though we didn’t win we met some great businesses Urban Cook, China Pearl & the winner Flag for Liverpool – who were all fantastic, go follow them!
and it doesn’t stop there! We are planning an amazing event for International Women’s Day on the 8th of March with DoES Liverpool/LJMU Open Labs & Another Level – we are SO excited to announce what we are up to next week… so keep an eye out for our tweets!
We are really trying to make something of Liverpool Girl Geeks, but it doesn’t happen without the support of you in the City – support that we have been overwhelmed by already!
If you want to get involved, write for us, organise some events or simply want to support us please get in touch either tweet us @lpoolgirlgeeks or email me firstname.lastname@example.org
Thank you everyone!
